Leaked Documents have emerged indicating India‘s spy agency RAW was behind a suspected false flag operation at the travel spot of Pahalgam in Indian-held Kashmir.
The papers were published by The Resistance Front (TRF), a Kashmiri organization India had originally accused of the attack. TRF not only confirmed no involvement but published what it says are internal RAW papers setting out the planning and execution of the fake operation.
As per the leaked documents, the operation was to be conducted in Anantnag district. Media personnel were to be posted 36 to 48 hours prior, and field operatives were to be deployed under the guise of keeping a watch on tourist activity.
The reports further state that in a matter of hours after the event, eyewitness statements would be created using artificial intelligence systems. Low-resolution videos would be edited to recreate the event visually, and a campaign of misinformation would be initiated using more than 200 social media handles. This campaign was meant to prevent the use of a central hashtag to make the fabricated narrative look genuine.
The release has also raised questions in India. Questions have been raised on how the names of the purported attackers were revealed so soon after the attack, casting doubts about the authenticity of the operation.
The leaked documents also indicate that the operation was coordinated with a visit by United States Vice President JD Vance, to generate international attention. A different control system was apparently switched on in Shopian to aid narrative management.
The Indian government has already started investigating the leak, according to sources. Officials, however, have yet to verify the authenticity of the documents, which are unsigned.
