ISLAMABAD – On Thursday, Army Chief General Asim Munir was officially presented with the Baton of Field Marshal during a prestigious ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr. This significant honor was bestowed upon him by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The event saw the attendance of federal cabinet members, provincial chief ministers, governors, lawmakers, senior civil and military officials, and notable national figures, including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Earlier, the federal government had approved General Munir’s promotion to Field Marshal, recognizing his outstanding leadership during Pakistan’s recent military engagement with India and the successful execution of “Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.” This decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
A moment of national pride: President Zardari
In his address to the attendees, President Zardari emphasized that the ceremony was a tribute to the bravery and commitment of Pakistan’s soldiers. He referred to the awarding of the Field Marshal title to General Munir as a proud moment for the nation, expressing his honor in approving such a well-deserved recognition.
Prime Minister lauds Munir’s leadership and resolve
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the armed forces for their decisive and strategic response, which forced the enemy to retreat. He noted that under General Munir’s leadership, the military achieved a historic victory that humbled their adversaries.
He further remarked that Field Marshal Asim Munir exhibited remarkable courage and determination during a time of significant national tension. “His contributions are vital in protecting the sovereignty and security of Pakistan, and we honor his invaluable service to the nation,” the Prime Minister stated.
